Pilchuck Development Company is committed to managing properties and developing projects with professionalism and integrity. Our reputation for service and quality is based on extensive real estate expertise and the confidence of our legacy tenants, many of whom are brand names in the Pacific Northwest.
Dedicated to Our Tenants
We are a small, local family business dedicated to our tenants and the high caliber of our properties. Because we do not outsource any of the management responsibilities, we are intimately aware and attune to the needs of our tenants. We are both proud and passionate about our work and we offer a personal touch and efficient problem-solving to our tenants.
Partner and Share
We partner and share investment interests with a group of minority partners with whom we have worked for decades. We are collaborators with these partners to ensure a high level of financial accountability that ultimately provides stability for our tenants and the longevity of our business.
Finally, our commitment to the Seattle-area community means we are long-term investors and managers of all of our properties; our business continues to build and grow on this platform of legacy holdings.
Nicholas “Nick” Westlund is a life-long Washington resident and today lives in Kirkland with his wife Carol. When he’s not managing the finance and partnerships at work, he is an avid spectator and fan of his two grandson’s sporting and leisure pursuits as well as tennis, golf and travel.
Mr. Westlund grew up at the base of Mount Pilchuck and climbed it as a young boy. Building his businesses have been much like his boyhood adventures; full of hard work, perseverance, integrity, and respect.
The Pilchuck Development Company is the culmination of more than 50 years of Mr. Westlund’s real estate experience and expertise. As principal of the Pilchuck Development Company, Mr. Westlund, together with daughter Jamie Shanks (who joined the company in 2000), actively manages more than 800,000 square feet of office space in nine buildings.
Prior to Pilchuck Development Company, Mr. Westlund partnered with Jack Martin to form Wesmar Investments, which over 20-plus years developed more than 30 office and industrial projects for a combined footprint of more than 1.5 million square feet, primarily in the Seattle and Portland sub-markets. Tenants included Boeing, AT&T, Microsoft, Infosys, Rockwell Collins, SeaMed, Nike, Fritz, PCL Construction, PhyCom, Helly Hansen, Caliber Home Loans, T Mobile, Humongous Entertainment and WestPac.
Mr. Westlund brings a robust and varied background to the Pilchuck Development Company.
A graduate of University of Washington Business School and a CPA, Mr. Westlund was an accounting consultant for 13 years before becoming CFO of Baugh Construction in 1976, where he honed his real estate financial insights. While at Baugh, Mr. Westlund led the Baugh principals in acquiring equity positions in real estate ventures throughout the northwest, including: the Kent Valley and Spokane, Washington; Portland, Oregon; Anchorage, Alaska; and Monterey, California.
Jamie (Westlund) Shanks
Jamie Shanks joined the family business in 2000, when she began managing properties for Wesmar Investments (Mr. Westlund’s prior venture). Prior to Wesmar, Jamie honed her property management skills working more than 10 years for CBRE, Broderick Group and Bedford Property Investors. Recently she augmented her knowledge base with a Certificate in accounting.
Jamie brings a dedication and commitment to her work that yields exceptional customer service for the company’s tenants. Her hands-on approach and deep community roots lead to quick and effective problem-solving in a crisis or every-day event.
